Time for an Update

HOME UPDATES:

Its that time again when I feel the need to repaint and redecorate my home.  I don't know about you but I can usually only go about 4 to 5 years with the current style before I start to want something else.  Now, it may take a few years after that urge before I come up with what I want.  Scouring magazine after magazine and Pinterest too of course to find that new look that is me.

I have always gravitated toward yellows and golds but this time I have found the color grey is catching my attention.  I never thought I would like grey until one day when I was scouring Pinterest and someone posted a pic of their staircase redone and it was beautiful and the wall color was perfect for it too.  I read all the comments to see if the color of the wall was listed and sure enough it was.  It is "Revere Pewter" by Benjamin Moore - Love, Love it.  I also found in the post the color and technique they used on the staircase as well.  I want our staircase and house to look just like this one.

I have started the walls and so far I love it.  I completed the dining room, kitchen, and halls so far and I am ready to tackle the living room where the stairway is.  Only problem is I haven't told the better half that I want to redo the stairway and I am not sure he will approve so I will have to carefully bring that plan up in conversation and see how it goes.  He is sometimes set in his ways.  For now I will share the before and after pics of the dining room and how I saved money by painting and distressing the light switches and plug-ins.  Here goes - let me know what you think.

Before
This is how it looked before with the yellow walls and blue toile with yellow background drapes and white plates above French doors.

Before
In this pic you see the black shelf that I am not sure of keeping
After
Here is the after painted "Revere Pewter" and I did not put the plates back up above the French doors and I changed the drapes to a tan color and added French candle sticks and an old milk crate and a French table runner.
After
I left the black clock on the wall but took the black shelf off for now till I figure out what I want to do on this wall.

After
Here is a close up of what is on the buffet and the wall grouping.  Not sure on the wall grouping.  I have a cow picture in mind to give this more a French Farmhouse look.  Its called "Eulalie" and I saw it on Miss Mustard Seed's site.  I will let you know what I decide on.  Depends on whether I want to fork out the money for the picture plus framing or stick with this.  But I really like the cow.

Hope you enjoyed the post!!

Welcome To Our New Blog

Hi and welcome to my new blog where I will be sharing anything and everything related to home décor.  It may be our latest repurposed item or a distressed piece of furniture we just finished.

We just opened a décor shop this past June after the two of us retired from our regular jobs.  I know some of you may be wondering why on earth would we retire and go to work again.  Home décor has always interested me and we seem to always be painting something for the home or changing things up and around if you know what I mean.

The above pic is a snapshot I took of a part of our store showing a dresser we painted with Annie Sloan paint and then distressed and sealed.

I hope you stop back for more decorating ideas and share some of yours as well.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Rita
